Has lots of detailed pictures and they tell much more (and often vital information) than the text. This is one of the McBroom series of books. Perfect for: Kids who like science fiction and fantasy. Naturally they eventually ate the whole apple and the book ends. I don't offhand remember space junk being a theme, though--it starts out with an expedition to explore Earth, which clearly can't have any life because of its poisonous atmosphere.

At the end of the book she must decide whether to use her last magic to turn the crow into a real non-magic crow, who will lose the ability to talk. Encyclopedia Brown comes by his name honestly: he often seems like a walking book of knowledge. Illustrated by Barbara Cooney. Scholastic, 1950, 4th paperback printing, 1971. For the art and museum based books find out more about the works of art mentioned. I think the title has the girl's name, then "changes clothes" or "changes her clothes."

My father's mother was a third grade teacher, so I assume this was a third grade reading book. The only illustration that remains vivid in my memory is one of Cinderella holding a WHITE kitten (possibly) in front of a fireplace. They try to get her back, tracking down the last box of cereal from the non-existant manufacturer, but then (I think) their mom throws the whole setup away! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :) Christine Noble Govan and Emmy West, Mystery at Moccasin Bend,1957.

I'm not sure which one because they had a couple, but maybe it's THE MUFFLETUMPS: THE STORY OF FOUR DOLLS by Jan Wahl, illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, 1966. I think the illustrations were watercolor and maybe the cat wore a beret. Closest I could find: Annual Mammoth Story Book: Fairy tales, Black Beauty, Mother Goose,Heidi -Whitman- 1954- Jean Gould-illustrated by Linda Card. Life in Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1912 wasn’t easy. … Born to Italian immigrants, Rosa’s parents and older sister work in the mills.

The stories are suitable for children of about 7 years and upwards. I failed when I started thinking about various movie memories I've had over the years which were connected with a previous post. Published by Harr Wagner Publishing Company -- San Francisco. With strong heroes and gripping plots, they're bound to keep teens reading. It is quite a large, thin picture book. I was beginning to think I would never determine the name of the book/story I loved as a child.

I think there may be several mechanical horses in the race as all the mad professors want to win this title. This is definitely the book, I'm holding it in my lap as I type. One of the adventures involved a merman who wanted Rosalind to stay with him. Divided into habitats, there was a description and vivid color picture for each animal, for example there was a desert section with desert animals, and each animal description included what characteristics were adapted for living in the desert.

For example, one recent story dealt with a mysterious apparition that turned out to be glowing swamp gas. He may be a hero, but heroes don't always react the way we want them to, and Delany reminds us of this more than once. Neale thought that his robot-burglar alarm might help to solve the mystery, and Margie was sure that her grandfather's books held the key to the problem. Some parts of this page won't work property. This is a logical step from Hank the Cowdog (see above). Michael Cart Copyright © American Library Association.

They have a cat that gets at the turkey they try to cook for Christmas dinner. A trip to the natural history museum quickly turns into a case for Gum Shoo and friends when a dinosaur, among other things, goes missing. When they look round the attic of the big house, Vera finds the body of a second man. One draws, one plays the piano, and Robin Gottleib, The Mystery of the Silent Friends, 1967, approximate. I can't remember what the conclusion is except that I think the man comes back and takes away the dial.
