Thanks for trying :) Walt Disney, Robin Hood, 1973. Who Stole Uncle Sam? (2008) is a genuine mystery. When Jeffery is old enough, he runs away and finds himself 200 miles away in a town that is divided based off of race and color. After moving to a new town, 16-year-old Wyatt falls for wild, unpredictable Greer, who, like Wyatt, has an incarcerated father. Was the collection you're looking for a paperback with a silver cover? The book G5 isn't remotely like The Magician's Nephew.

I got mine as a gift in the 70's too. Anyway, Harriet, a thousand thanx!! your site is now 2 for 2 in rekindling my failing memory. I remember that the elves bare-bottoms showed! The aunt gives each girl a necklace in which a pearl will be added each birthday and christmas until they have a pearl necklace for their own weddings. Not knowing the title/whereabouts of this book has been plaguing me for years. Penny has been writing the Chief Inspector Gamache mysteries for a while now (this is her eighth), and the series is distinguished by the emotional acuity with which she depicts the prickly relationship between Gamache and his sidekick at the Surete du Quebec, Inspector Jean-Guy Beauvoir.

I think the book you're looking for is one of a series and I'm not sure which one has the events you describe. Centers on seventeen-year-old Pauline, who hopes to be a writer, and her bittersweet romance with Pierre, a forty-year-old Parisian artist. Aunt Dottie left me her wonderful collection of these books along with her house, and when the Athena Public Library decided to do an exhibit on these classic children's books for National Library Week, I was thrilled. The same characters appear in some other Joan Aiken collections as well, but I think this is the only book devoted to them.

VG-. "A Shoe for Blitzen" This is a collection of Christmas stories, probably published by Golden Books in the 50's. Cheaper by the Dozen - No growing pains have ever been more hilarious than those suffered loudly by the riotous Gilbreth clan. Could be one of several Famous Five books set on an island. The good news is that this book was just reprinted in 2001 by Hyperion Paperbacks and so should not be too hard to find.

No one must ever know or Miracle at Carville. Published by Rand McNally in 1939, though the original publication date was likely earlier. Step 1: Explain to students that most mysteries are made up of the same "ingredients," or story elements. S Eliot described Nightwood’s prose as “altogether alive” but also “demanding something of a reader that the ordinary novel-reader is not prepared to give.” Nightwood is a novel of ideas, a loose collection of monologues and descriptions.

And then Eleanor's body is discovered lying in a small loch close to the cliff edge. This series also takes place in New York. It was also published as a Little Golden Book (called The Gingerbread Shop)--in that version, there were only two children, Jane and Michael (the babies were left out). S Eliot described Nightwood’s prose as “altogether alive” but also “demanding something of a reader that the ordinary novel-reader is not prepared to give.” Nightwood is a novel of ideas, a loose collection of monologues and descriptions.

Investigate famous forgeries and how experts uncovered them. He finally gets his hair cut in the manner described in the stumper. It is MAGIC ISLAND, by Madye Lee Chastain. As a child born in 1949, my parents bought many books for my sisters and I to read. If anyone can track down the literature textbook it is in, that would help me solve an earlier book stumper I sent in about a boy named P. The Stone Pony by Patricia Calvert (1982).

The book I'm looking for is going to be extremely difficult, I'm sure, but it doesn't hurt to try. There were a number of books about Pip Squeak, a woodmouse, but I didn't see anything about 3 mice. Lois and Lettice are identical twins who get into all kinds of trouble at boarding school. While they wait for word from their father the king, it slowly becomes clear that someone amongst them is a traitor, but who? I'm not surprised this is a Norah Lofts book. This book is about a brother and sister, orphaned and fending for themselves in a town near the ocean.

Their chance to win the coveted silver skates in a race on the village’s frozen canals could save them all. I really want my children to read it, cuz I loved it so much. I read this in the late 80s/early 90s, and was so skeeved out by it that I may remember it totally wrong. I found it entirely by accident, and have been perusing it all afternoon. In the 1960's, I remember reading a hardback book in which a young student pilot, I think a girl, flew a float plane and "landed" on Lake Mead.
